Fiona Slaughter attends the University of Missouri in Kansas City, where she pursues a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance and studies with Celeste Johnson-Frehner. In December 2020, she earned her Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan, where she studied with Nancy Ambrose King.  Slaughter graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Arkansas, where she studied as an honors college fellow with Theresa Delaplain.

A native of Fayetteville, Slaughter was a member of the music community in Northwest Arkansas for several years.  She performed with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Arkansas Philharmonic, Fort Smith Symphony, and in church services. In 2018, Slaughter was selected as the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas Young Artist, and she performed the first movement of the Mozart Oboe Concerto with the orchestra.

In the summer of 2019, Slaughter attended the Pacific Region International Music Academy, where she played principal oboe on Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.  She also performed in masterclasses at the International Double Reed Society Conference in Tampa, Florida, and performed several notable works for woodwind quintet at the British Isles Chamber Music Festival.

Slaughter’s past performing experiences also include the European American Musical Alliance Nadia Boulanger Institute, Prague Summer Nights Young Artist Music Festival and Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival.  Slaughter has performed in master classes with many musicians including Nicholas Daniel, Peter Cooper, Tom Gallant, Alex Klein, Walter Seyfarth, William Wielgus, Toyin Spellman-Diaz, Allan Vogel, Juliana Koch, Roy Howat, and Emile Naoumoff. In 2018, she was a winner of the U of A Honors Recital Competition.  In 2016, Slaughter won 1st place Collegiate Oboist in the Midwest Double Reed Society Young Artist Competition.

In the future, Slaughter plans to become an oboe professor and to enjoy a lifetime of inspiring musical projects and collaborations.
